Do you have to label AI videos on YouTube and TikTok?
Updated September 28, 2026
Sometimes, and it depends on how realistic the video is. Both platforms ask for a label when AI content could be mistaken for something real. Stylised pictures and obvious animation usually do not need one; a realistic video of a person or event that did not happen does.
YouTube
At the time of writing, YouTube requires creators to disclose content that is meaningfully altered or synthetically generated when it seems realistic: for example, making a real person appear to say something they did not, altering footage of a real event or place, or generating a realistic scene that did not happen. The disclosure is a setting when you upload, and YouTube shows a label on the video.
YouTube says disclosure is not needed for clearly unrealistic content (animation, fantasy), for colour or lighting edits, or when AI was only used for production help such as scripts or captions.
TikTok
TikTok asks creators to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video, and may apply a label automatically when it detects AI content. It also prohibits AI content that misleads about matters of public importance or impersonates real people without consent.
What this means for faceless channels
Most faceless formats, such as illustrated stories, animated explainers and captioned facts over pictures, are clearly not claiming to be real footage. Realistic AI video of people and events is where labels matter. When in doubt, label: at the time of writing, neither platform says a disclosure limits a video's reach, and not disclosing when you should can lead to penalties.
Videos posted to YouTube Shorts and TikTok through our auto-posting carry each platform's AI flag automatically, so you do not have to remember it on every upload.
